Jon Pardi On Upcoming “Reverse Cowgirl” Song: “It’s The Best, Dirtiest, Cleanest Thing…”

Music

Boy, I can’t wait for this upcoming Jon Pardi album, Mr. Saturday Night.

For one, the California cowboy has already released a few singles ahead of the album, including “Last Night Lonely,” “Fill ‘Er Up,” and the title-track.

On top of that, I scrolled through the track list, and noticed some song titles that kind of smacked me across the face, like “Reverse Cowgirl,” and “Smoke A Doobie.”

Needless to say, this album sounds WILD.

But speaking of “Reverse Cowgirl,” Pardi went a little in-depth behind the song on Audacy’s Katie & Company podcast, and told the story about how the song came to be:

“We’ve had ‘Reverse Cowgirl’ on hold since 2020. Jake Owen made sure he called every three months until he knew I recorded that song. He’s like, ‘well, if you don’t want it, you know I want that song!’

Chase Rice, he texts me like, ‘Dude, did you record ‘Reverse Cowgirl’ yet? I cannot wait!’ He’s like, ‘I’ve never had a demo for so long and been so anticipated’…it’s a sad song.

The guy wants his cowgirl to come back. Now, it may have a little twist in there, and it’s for your mind to think about. It’s the best, dirtiest, cleanest thing you can have… it’s got a funny, humorous twist to it, but it’s also really pretty and really romantic in a way.

When I first heard it, I was like, ‘Man, there ain’t no way! There ain’t no way! Then, the whole world went through some s***.”

So no, this song isn’t sexually explicit, regardless of the title. In fact, it might just leave a couple of tears rolling down your face.

Nevertheless, the song title itself will raise some eyebrows, and September 2nd can’t come fast enough.

Jon Pardi himself can’t wait any longer either, and there will be a deluxe version as well:

“We recorded so many songs, because there’s going to be a deluxe. It was fun. We really wanted to dig into some stuff that was more personal… bringing me and Summer into this.”

Bring it on.
