The massive display of flags — 2,977 representing lives lost in the attacks both Americans and international citizens — draws considerable attention at the corner of Malibu Canyon Road and Pacific Coast Highway.

The “Waves of Flags” tradition began in 2008 when university students were inspired by a similar 9/11 tribute. The flags are scheduled to be up until Sept. 23 on Alumni Park’s great lawn.
