Mae Estes Knows Exactly How She Wants To Go Out With New Single “Die In A Bar”

Music

That’s a hell of a way to go.

If you’re not familiar with stone-cold country newcomer Mae Estes, she’s already won us over with heaters like the honky tonk heartbreaker “Thinkin Bout Cheatin” and the rockin’ “I Quit Smoking.”

And she’s done gone and done it again with her newest release.

With an ode to some of her honky tonk heroes, this one finds Mae telling us exactly how she wants to go out on her latest single, “Die in a Bar.”

“I’ll fly away on a whiskey river
Washed in the glow of a neon light
When it all goes dark
Want a beer in hand when it’s time to go
See a sawdust floor ‘fore my eyes close
When the Good Lord stops this honky tonk heart
I wanna die
I wanna die in a bar”

Hey, we all gotta go sometime. Might as well be doing something you love.

Written by Mae along with Greg Bates, Mia Mantia and SJ McDonald and reminiscent of Joe Diffie’s classic “Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die),” Mae says that “Die In a Bar” came to her one night and she took it into a writing session the next day:

“The idea itself wasn’t anything groundbreaking, but it was one of the most fun writing sessions I’ve ever had,” Estes recalls. “The energy in the room was laid back, free, and inspired by our favorite era of country.”

And if you missed her last few releases, you better catch up now, because I have a feeling everybody will know Mae pretty soon.
