What’s closed for Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, and also Nov. 25, in the Los Angeles area

Government offices — Los Angeles city and county, national and state — and courts, libraries and schools are closed for the Thanksgiving Day holiday. City, county and state offices, superior courts, libraries (bit.ly/2ZCdZV5; lacountylibrary.org/library-locator) and schools are also closed on Nov. 25.

Here is a sampling of other services that are closed, have an altered service or are on a regular schedule on Thursday-Friday.

Banks: Closed, as are New York Stock Exchange markets, on Nov. 24 (www.nyse.com/markets/hours-calendars). Some financial markets close early on Nov. 25.

Mail: The U.S. Postal Service does not deliver mail and post offices are closed on Nov. 24. about.usps.com/newsroom/events; www.usps.com

Transit: Buses and subway services in Los Angeles run on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Nov. 24 (www.metro.net/riding/schedules; www.metro.net). Metrolink trains operate on a Saturday schedule on Nov. 24-25 on the Ventura County, Antelope Valley, San Bernardino, Orange County, 91/Perris Valley and Inland Empire-Orange County lines (no service on the Riverside Line; metrolinktrains.com/schedules/thanksgiving-day; www.metrolinktrains.com).

Trash: Pickup is postponed by one day in Los Angeles beginning with Nov. 24 trash (picked up on Nov. 25) and Nov. 25 trash (picked up on Nov. 26).
