Motorcycle crash in LA leaves one dead, passenger in critical condition

The driver of a motorcycle was killed and his passenger hospitalized in critical condition early Monday, Jan. 2, when they collided with a railroad crossing sign, Los Angeles police reported.

The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. at Imperial Highway near San Pedro Street, Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Officer Mike Lopez said.

No other vehicle is suspected to have been a factor in the crash, Lopez said.

The motorcycle was driving west on Imperial Highway when it collided with the sign, Lopez said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department, he added. The female rider was taken to a hospital and in critical condition.

No other details were available, Lopez said.
