Charles Wesley Godwin is off to a hot start in 2023.
He just made his very well-deserved debut at the Grand Ole Opry over the weekend, and today, he’s teasing a brand new tune called “The Flood.”
He says it was inspired by a story about his mom driving over a broken bride to get home during the devastating floods, known as the Killer Floods or the Election Day Floods, that hit his home state of West Virginia in 1985.
Charles’ haunting vocals of course make the song feel even more authentic and heavy than it already is, and per the usual, he tells a true story of life in Appalachia that makes the region so unique and special, and helps keep the great country music from artists like him flowing:
“‘The Flood.’ This song’s about my mom driving over a broken bridge to get back home during the flood of ‘85. Enjoy!”
Charles announced not too long ago that the next record is in the works, which hopefully means we’ll get a new project sometime before 2023 is up, and it seems likely that this one will be included on the tracklist when the time comes.
At least, I really hope that it is…
