Luke Combs Scores 15th Career #1 Single At Country Radio With “Going, Going, Gone”

Music

Make it 15 for Luke Combs.

The North Carolina native and country superstar just scored his 15th career #1 single at country radio with “Going, Going, Gone,” from his 2022 Growin’ Up record.

The break-up song was written by Luke along with Ray Fulcher and James McNair, as he sings about a former significant other, who no matter what he does, there’s simply no holding her down.

Throughout the lyrics, he compares the girl to everything that goes away in the blink of an eye, from a southbound train, to Arizona desert rain, to lightning in the sky, fireworks in July, home run balls, and more.

It’s actually one of my favorite singles he’s released in a long time, so it’s great to see it at the top of the Billboard Country Airplay chart this week (one of two charts labels use to officially track their songs performance):

I mean, at this point, it kinda feels like everything he touches is like lighting in a bottle, and there’s certainly a reason he just keeps cranking out hits… Luke respects the genre and those who came before him more than just about any other artist within the mainstream scope.

His next studio album Gettin’ Old will be out everywhere in just two short weeks on March 24th, and includes 18 songs in total, right around seven months since the release of his 3rd career studio album Growin’ Up was released.

Luke revealed the tracklist a few weeks ago, which includes a cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” in addition to an Eric Church co-write called “My Song Will Never Die.”

He previously released “Love You Anyway,” as well as the lead single “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old.”

“Going, Going, Gone”

And I still love his perfomance of “Going, Going, Gone” at the 2023 Grammy Awards earlier this year with that gorgeous a 3-string orchestra backing him:
