I am convinced Charles Wesley Godwin can cover any country song and absolutely nail it.
He shares little acoustic videos on Instagram pretty often, some originals and some covers, and today, he posted my favorite one yet.
CWG shared an almost-haunting rendition of George Strait’s “Troubadour,” which is one of my all-time favorites of his vast and impressive catalog.
It was recently certified 3x Platinum by the RIAA, and was the title track to his 2008 25th studio album.
The record actually scored The King his very first Grammy win, as he took home the award for Best Country Album at the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009.
Written by Leslie Satcher and Monty Holmes, George released “Troubadour” as a single in June of 2008, and it ultimately peaked at #7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
I’m sure Mr. George would be proud of Charles’ rendition, too, that’s for sure…
