With temperatures near 100 degrees, people flocked to the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center in Santa Clarita on Thursday for some relief. The National Weather Service has issued excessive heat warnings for Southern California and predicts the hottest conditions in Southern California to be on Friday and Saturday of this week, with highs increasing to 100-110 degrees in the hottest areas with 95-105 degrees across the coastal valleys and Santa Monica Mountains.
The NWS recommends taking extra precautions if you work or spend time outside and, if possible, reschedule activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing while outside.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent breaks in the shade or air-conditioned buildings to reduce your risk during outdoor work. If you feel overwhelmed by the heat, move to a cool and shaded location. If you experience symptoms of heatstroke, seek immediate medical assistance.
