Ward Davis On Maren Morris Leaving Country Music: “Can’t Really Quit Something Unless You Do It To Begin With”

Music

Ward Davis definitely has a way with words.

Not only is he an incredible songwriter, but he’s absolutely hilarious on social media too. From his battle with the Hays, Kansas police department to his rants on everyday life, Ward is known for his unfiltered and amusing takes on Facebook.

And now he’s chiming in one of the hot topics in country music right now: Maren Morris.

Morris recently made headlines when she announced that she was leaving country music, saying that the “Trump years” made her uncomfortable to be associated with the genre:

“After the Trump years, people’s biases were on full display. It just revealed who people really were and that they were proud to be misogynistic and racist and homophobic and transphobic.

All these things were being celebrated, and it was weirdly dovetailing with this hyper-masculine branch of country music…

I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over… but it’s burning itself down without my help.”

However, many have pointed out that Morris has been leaning into pop music throughout her career, but especially with her last few releases.

Or as Ward Davis put it in his Facebook post:

“I read that Maren Morris announced that she has decided to quit country music. I do not mean this to be ugly, but you can’t really quit something unless you do it to begin with.

Like, I’m not going to quit being a real estate agent and I’m not going to give up my rodeo career either. Just wouldnt make any sense.”

I would say that if Ward ever DID decide to give up his non-existent real estate or rodeo careers, he has a real shot at comedy.

Although I’m definitely glad he’s (still) in the country music world – making real country music.
