The Eras Tour further cements its status as highest-grossing concert film domestically with $31 million second weekend

In the battle of three-hour movies at the multiplex, Taylor Swift remained box office champ for a second consecutive weekend as The Eras Tour edged Killers of the Flower Moon to stay Number One.

In its second week of release, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour brought in an additional $31 million, bringing its two-week total to $129 million and further cementing its status as the highest-grossing concert film ever in the U.S. The Eras Tour is also the first independently released film in over a decade to cross $100 million at the box office, the Hollywood Reporter noted.

Martin Scorsese’s acclaimed Killers of the Flower Moon opened with $23 million, a number weighted down in part by both its enormous runtime (three hours and 26 minutes) and its impending arrival on Apple TV+. Still, the total marked the third-best opening for a Scorsese film, behind Shutter Island (the director’s worst movie, according to our rankings) and The Departed.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has at least two more weeks in its theatrical run. Earlier this week, Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan praised Swift for bucking the studio system and distributing the film straight to cinemas.

“Taylor Swift is about to show the studios, because her concert film is not being distributed by the studios, it’s being distributed by a theater owner, AMC, and it’s going to make an enormous amount of money,” Nolan said.

“And this is the thing: This is a format, this is a way of seeing things and sharing stories, or sharing experiences, that’s incredibly valuable. And if they don’t want it, somebody else will. So that’s just the truth of it.”
