One of the best up-and-coming artists in country music, Kolby Cooper is back with another new one. And just like most of his music, this is one you’re going to want to crank up to 10 when you turn it on.
The Texas native has forged a sound that’s all his own, blending rock with his roots in the Lone Star State in a way that’s put him firmly in the conversation for best up-and-coming artists in country music right now.
Kolby released his label debut album, Boy From Anderson County To The Moon, last year. But he hasn’t let up and isn’t resting on the success and killer sound from that debut.
He’s been releasing new music at a pretty rapid clip during the second half of the year, showcasing his versatility with songs like the rockin’ “Kill Me” to the homesick “Hello From The Road.”
But Kolby says that this new one might be his favorite song ever.
“Running Away,” which dropped today on all streaming platforms, again shows off Kolby’s signature rock edge in a song about what could have been – had things not worked out the way the did:
“This song is about a world where my wife and I never actually got together and the constant struggle of trying to convince her that it’s meant to be and that it will all work out.”
That passionate struggle of fighting for something that you know in your heart you need is something that everybody can probably relate to:
“Come on baby give me one night
I’ll love you like a landslide
Ain’t gotta spend your whole life runnin’ away
Girl you get me goin’ haywire
Swimmin’ in your sapphires
Let’s just be a wildfire runnin’ away”
And Kolby says that he knew from the time that he wrote this one that it was one of his favorite songs ever:
“When we finished writing ‘Running Away’ I felt that I had written my favorite song, and I still feel that way today.”
When you listen to the song, it’s not hard to see why:
The song is out NOW and available for streaming on all platforms, so make sure you give it a listen HERE.
It’s already been a big year for Kolby, who made his Grand Ole Opry debut earlier this year and has been packing rooms all over the country. And if you still want to catch Kolby out on the road, the dude is an absolute touring monster and still has plenty of shows left in 2023:
