Former Super Bowl winner arrested over multiple robberies

US News

A former Super Bowl winner has been arrested on suspicion of robbing multiple businesses in the LA area.

Derrick Ward, who won an NFL championship ring with the New York Giants, was arrested on Monday.

The 43-year-old allegedly robbed at least five businesses, including petrol stations, according to Los Angeles police.

Officers said he wasn’t suspected of using a gun in any of the robberies.

Ward was still in custody on Tuesday, with his bail set at $250,000 (£196,000).

The running back was part of the Giants squad that shocked New England Patriots – unbeaten in the regular season – to win the 2008 Super Bowl by three points.

Unluckily for Ward, he couldn’t play the showpiece game because he broke his leg late in the season.

However, he bounced back the next season and clocked up a career-high 1,025 yards.

Ward also had stints with Tampa Bay and Houston during an eight-season journeyman career that ended in 2012.
