Government offices — Los Angeles city and county, national and state — and superior courts and libraries are normally closed for New Year’s Day.
Here’s a sampling of government offices and other services that are closed or have altered schedules on Monday, Jan. 1.

Metrolink trains run on a weekend schedule on Monday. Service available on the Antelope Valley, San Bernardino, Orange County, 91/Perris Valley, Ventura County and Inland Empire-Orange County lines (trains will not operate on the Riverside Line). Also, Metrolink offers a special service to Los Angeles Union Station connecting to the Rose Parade on the Ventura County, Orange County and 91/Perris Valley lines. In addition, the first trains on the San Bernardino and Antelope Valley lines operate on a modified schedule, departing an hour earlier to accommodate passengers traveling to the Rose Parade.

Trash: Pickup is delayed by one day beginning on Monday for Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment customers. Monday’s trash is picked up on Tuesday; Tuesday’s trash is picked up on Wednesday; Wednesday’s trash is picked up on Thursday; and so on through the week.
