The Toby Keith tributes continue.
The country music community continues to feel the loss of Toby Keith. This week marked a month since we lost the Oklahoma boy, and making sure that his legacy continues, Jelly Roll tipped his hat to the Big Dog Daddy during his RODEOHOUSTON set.
As Toby Keith was no stranger to the Stock Show and Rodeo, having performed a total of nine times in his career, it felt right to honor him while on the star-shaped stage. Although, Jelly Roll didn’t quite have had the whole fireworks display that Keith had from his 2013 performance:
He did the next best thing, however, and held a sing-along to one of Keith’s best-known songs, “Should’ve Been A Cowboy.” While Jelly Roll has performed this cover numerous times, this one feels more special, given the significance of the date.
With his black cowboy hat on, Jelly Roll kicks off the song, and from the start, you can hear the buzz from the audience singing along with him. The lyrics fill the NRG Stadium from both Jelly Roll and the audience and it seemed electric.
“Rest in peace, Toby Keith. We love you!”
Long live the legacy of Toby Keith. I bet he was looking down, smiling, knowing his legacy at the historic rodeo lives on.
