London-Based Artist Jack Browning Is A Man of Many Talents

Music

Jack Browning is a man of many talents.

An impressive songwriter, Browning’s music is full of clever lyricism and captivating storytelling. When listening to his music and the way he writes, it’d be easy to assume he’s another promising young artist joining the up and coming ranks from country music’s Appalachia hotbed, but instead he hails from across the pond, bringing us his music from London.

With a short but potent catalog of original music, Browning just released his debut record Red Eye Radio this past September, and partially due to his location, perhaps, the project has flown somewhat under the radar thus far. But don’t get it wrong, Browning is a formidable songwriter heavily influenced by the likes of yesteryear’s folk greats like Townes Van Zandt and John Prine, Americana rockers such as Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen, all the way to modern legends like Tyler Childers and Colter Wall.

These influences, his passion for his craft, and knack for storytelling are all prominently displayed in the 11 tracks on Red Eye Radio, an open window into Browning’s mind, covering plenty of personal topics such as mental health and life on the road, as well as fictional stories inspired by Browning’s fascination with the American West.

Here are a few of my favorite songs of Jack Browning’s debut record Red Eye Radio below.

“The Family Guns”

“You Can’t Love Me Anymore”

“Cold Mountain Wailin’”

And check out his latest single, “High Hopes”

But maybe even more impressive than his music, though, is Browning’s painting.

A love Browning has possessed since a child, his painting style has changed over the years, but his effervescent passion for creating has remained the same. Now, Browning has become most well known for painting, among other things, portraits of country music artists, both old and new. And these paintings are incredible.

With paintings of Tyler Childers, Zach Bryan, Charles Wesley Godwin, Sturgill Simpson, Colter Wall, Charley Crockett, Sierra Ferrell, and many, many more, it’s very likely that Browning has a portrait of your favorite artist in his collection. Check out a handful of his paintings on his Instagram below.

If you like what you’ve seen in Browning’s art, head on over to his website and check out the rest of his collection. He sells some awesome prints of these paintings. Otherwise, dive into his debut album Red Eye Radio, and revel in the rich lyricism and storytelling. Either way, Browning has something for every country music fan in his artistic endeavors.

Oh, and the album cover art on Red Eye Radio features his own self-portrait. Not too many artists out there who can say they’ve done that!
