Shania… is that you?
The 2nd Annual People Choice Country Awards are underway tonight in Nashville, Tennessee, with the great Shania Twain handling the hosting duties.
And speaking of Shania Twain… plenty of country music fans had no idea who was walking the red carpet when she showed up.
Rocking a bit a of a ’60s housewife look (I ain’t mad at it), her red carpet picture was shared to the official People Choice Country Awards Instagram account, and immediately met with barrage of stunned comments.
And look, I’ll tell anyone this… NEVER read the comments. I don’t care if you’re a superstar celebrity or a lowly internet blogger like myself… you just don’t do it. You let keyboard warriors get in your head and it’s game over in a hurry. Especially someone with no profile picture and 13 numbers in their username. Don’t let @hank3563413479532 ruin your mood.
But when it came to this Shania post, I have to agree… I honestly don’t think I would’ve known who that was without the proper context. I don’t know even who I thought it was as I was scrolling through Instagram and watching Thursday Night Football. She almost looks like an older, knockoff version of Eva Mendez? I don’t know… I can’t quite put my finger on it…
Even Shania Twain super fans almost didn’t recognize the 59 year old country music legend, which I won’t go as far to say that I’m a super fan… but I do love Shania. I had her poster on my bedroom door when I was kid, she was probably my first crush, she’s the GOAT in a lot of ways… completely changed the game.
That being said, the comments were pretty overwhelming:

She was so beautiful before…
And don’t get me wrong, there were plenty of positive comments too, you know… all those “SLAY QUEEN” kind of comments sprinkled in, but you had to scroll pretty far to find them.
Who knows, maybe it’s just the wig that’s throwing people off…
She did make quite the entrance though:
Plastic Surgery?
Shania is frequently accused of having too much plastic surgery done, or utilizing the popular antidiabetic drug Ozempic (that’s often used for weight loss), however, last year she said she had no plans to get plastic surgery.
In a 2023 episode on the Making Space with Hoda Kotb podcast, and said:
“I’ve come to a point where, no I’m not gonna do it. Maybe that was probably part of what pushed me to go, ‘OK, it’s time to start loving yourself in your own skin,’ because sure I’ve got lots of friends that have had very successful surgeries, but I’ve also seen others that aren’t so successful.”
She also confessed that she was afraid that she could become one of those people on an episode of Botched. Is that still on?
“And then I think, ‘Well what if I’m one of those that doesn’t heal very well, then I’m gonna hate that about myself.’
Then I’m gonna regret doing it. And then, maybe I’m going to fall and cut myself, and I’m gonna need stitches, for real.”
So… it’s anyone’s guess…
And speaking of Eva Mendez, she’s in her 50s too… LAWD.
