Billy Strings is making it right with those who bought tickets to his annual Renewal Festival in Buena Vista, Colorado.
Strings was not planning on canceling his set during the concert, but his wife went into labor, and he knew he needed to make the choice to be by his wife’s side as she delivered their firstborn.
Billy Strings quickly posted on social media, notifying fans why he had to step away from the performance unexpectedly.
“Hey y’all!! Quick update…
I arrived in Buena Vista Thursday night ready to rock out at Renewal with my band and all my friends… but knowing in the back of my mind that there’s a chance I might have to get back to Michigan at a moments notice if my wife went into labor… we were really hoping that baby boy would wait till Sunday morning at least but he had plans of his own. Friday morning I got to the festival site and did a soundcheck and a quick Q&A set about the album…
I was hanging out backstage, getting ready to rehearse for our set, when my wife called and told me her water broke. I immediately hopped on a jet (thank you, Ringo Starr, for lending me your ride) and headed back. I was mortified to leave the fans hanging and to leave the responsibility of the gig to my band and friends, who stepped up and kicked ass in my absence. ( I owe you all a cold beer! ) but I was so excited to get back to my wife because she needed me…
After a long labor and delivery, fans were thrilled to hear that Baby Strings had safely made his debut into the world and that mom was also happy and healthy.
Although Strings could not perform his set at Renewal, his band filled in for him, still delivering a stellar bluegrass set. However, as Strings noted in his update about having to leave at the drop of a hat, feeling mortified to leave fans hanging on that short notice, he is issuing refunds to those who purchased a ticket to the event.
This evening, Strings took to social media to inform fans how the process would work.

On Friday, October 4th, we will begin processing refunds for all GA and VIP tickets. Please allow 5-10 business days for the funds to appear in your account.

What a class act. While I am sure many fans were more than understanding why he needed to step away at the last minute, this act shows how much Strings cares about his fans and their happiness. And kudos to him for taking care of this amid the craziness of bringing home a newborn.
