Ranking Toby Keith’s Top 5 Music Videos

Music

Nobody was better at crafting masterpiece music videos than the Big Dog Daddy.

It still hurts to think about how the country music world lost the great Toby Keith earlier this year. However, he did leave behind plenty of great music and stellar music videos that will carry on forever and keep the spirit of the country music icon alive for years to come.

I personally think Keith’s music videos deserve more recognition. He was churning out some next level filmography to go along with his songs, and it was his patented attention to detail and longing to have fun in life that led to so many memorable music videos – almost too many to fit into a power ranking.

But I tried my best anyways and collected what I believe (in my humble opinion) are his greatest music videos. Somehow, the Big Dog Daddy always took his already phenomenal songs and made them that much more iconic by complimenting his music with kick-ass video supplements. Like I said, it was hard to narrow it down into one short list, so don’t hold it against me if you don’t see one of your favorites mentioned below:

Honorable Mentions:

“Who’s Your Daddy?” and “A Little Too Late”

It’s not a power ranking if we don’t start with some honorable mentions (sometimes also called OLI’s, or outside-looking-in). These two were dangerously close to making the top five listed I concocted, and only missed out because the others are so damn good.

The ending of “Who’s Your Daddy?” is a masterclass, shows off some of Keith’s acting chops, and also featured the fan-favorite character Cledus. And “A Little Too Late” is basically the closest thing we ever got to a Toby Keith horror movie, even though it ends with a comical twist.

5. “As Good As I Once Was”

Now getting to the actual list. At number five, we’ve got “As Good As I Once Was.” This video throws out a couple of different premises, like Toby running into twin sisters at a bar, or the Big Dog Daddy getting into a massive bar fight only because someone spilled a little bit of his beer. It’s an all timer.

4. “I Love This Bar”

Hey look! Another Toby Keith bar song made the list, and why wouldn’t the music video for “I Love This Bar” be in the top five?

The track highlights a bar and all the different types of people you can find in them, and it’s all brought together by Keith and a band playing behind chicken wire so they don’t get hit with various objects being thrown at them by the crowd.

3. “Red Solo Cup”

RED SOLO CUP! I FILL YOU UP! Let’s have a legendary music video, where Toby Keith traverses through one of the wildest house parties that you’ve ever seen.

It even features cameos from Jeff Dunham, Larry Bird, Carrot Top, Ted Nugent, Sammy Hagar, Craig Ferguson, and Eric Church. The music video undoubtedly helped make the song that much more successful.

2. “Beer For My Horses (ft. Willie Nelson)”

Some of you might get upset at me for not putting this at number one. The video for “Beer For My Horses,” which the Big Dog Daddy got Willie Nelson to join in on, might be the most cinematic music video the world has ever seen.

I don’t think anyone would have been upset if this would have spawned a True Detective-esque mini series with Keith and Nelson playing investigators. But since we never got that, we’ll have to settle for this music video that has incredible re-watchability.

1. “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)”

And here we are at number one, and hopefully you now see why I put “Beer For My Horses” at number two. It doesn’t get any better – or more patriotic – than Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American).”

The music video splices together live performances of the song, pictures of our armed forces in action, and some of the Big Dog Daddy’s visits overseas to play for and visit the troops. It’s an undeniable number one.
