Hudson Westbrook Is A Rising Star In Texas Country Music Scene

Music

Don’t be too surprised, but there’s another star in the making coming from the Lone Star state.

A Stephenville, TX native and self taught musician, Hudson Westbrook released his debut single “Take It Slow” back in April while still a student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, and having already had some social media popularity prior to the release, the streaming numbers have been strong from the start.

Just a couple of months later, he began rolling out the singles for his first project, releasing four more singles between June and October. Today, his full self-titled debut EP Hudson Westbrook hit streaming platforms everywhere, and with two new tunes rounding out the seven song track list, Westbrook’s first project has been met with an impressive amount of excitement from country music fans across the country.

And reasonably so. The young up and comer, who has unavoidably been compared to Parker McCollum in his Limestone Kid glory days, has proven to be a clever songwriter, capitalizing on catchy wordplay to deliver relatable messages to young listeners in a light hearted way. With a can’t help but hum along sound that draws on influences from all kinds of different genres, the Texas country sound that has become so prominent in today’s country music landscape is undeniable in Westbrook’s music, and his personality and social media presence make it hard not to root for him.

Westbrook’s catalog is still growing, and we may only have eight original songs of his out in the world right now, but I think it’s obvious that Westbrook has what it takes to become a big player in the scene, and maybe even follow in the footsteps of some of the Texas artists that have experienced success in the mainstream like Randy Rogers, Josh Abbott, and of course, Parker McCollum.

“Pray Your Name”

“House Again”

“5 to 9”

“Johnny Walker”

Paying homage to another one of Texas’ finest up and comers, and an artist he has drawn a great deal of inspiration from, Hudson Westbrook tips his cap to fellow songwriter Jacob Stelly with this cover rounding out the album.

And we’ve gotta give credit where credit is due, here’s the original version of “Johnny Walker,” written and released by Jacob Stelly in 2021.
