Donald Trump’s picks for attorney general and defense secretary are bound to have rocky confirmation hearings
Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update tackled some of Donald Trump’s most troubling cabinet picks.
On Wednesday, Trump said he would nominate Matt Gaetz for attorney general. When the then-congressman was first asked about the role, co-anchor Colin Jost joked, he “said the same thing he does when he sees a teenage girl: ‘I’ll do it.’”
Gaetz is accused of having sex with a minor, which he denies.
Jost continued to go after the former Florida congressman. “Gaetz, who was created when Frankenstein raped Dracula, was chosen for attorney general after Trump remembered that his original pick was found dead in a jail cell,” he said, as a photograph of Jeffrey Epstein showed on screen.
Michael Che then had a few words for Elon Musk, the self-described “first buddy” of Trump who is helping lead a made-up government efficiency “department.”
“Elon Musk is reportedly spending nearly every day with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, but don’t worry, Elon will leave as soon as he finishes listing all the dinosaurs in alphabetical order,” Che joked.
“Musk’s new department of government efficiency posted a job listing saying that they are looking for people willing to work 80-plus hours a week for no money,” he continued. “But you can’t be surprised the white African guy’s first idea is slavery!”
As for Pete Hegseth‘s (potentially rocky) confirmation process for secretary of defense, Che called attention to one aspect of his resume.
“Hegseth is co-host of Fox & Friends Weekends, which is broadcast exclusively on CPAP machines.”
