This works scarily well.
I am a sucker for a good mashup. Whether it’s Taylor Hunnicutt ripping it to “When The Rain Comes Down,” mixed with “Waymore’s Blues,” or 50 Cent using AI to create a country-sounding mashup of “In Da Club” and Conway Twitty, I will fall in love every time.
Something about hearing beats sync up or the switch-up of lyrics tickles my brain in all the right places.
Last year, I stumbled upon an incredible cover mashup of Whiskey Myer’s ‘Broken Window Serenade” with Alice in Chain’s “Nutshell.” Seeing “Broken Window Serenade” at the beginning of the title got my ears perked up, and then seeing it was being crossed with a classic from Alice in Chains intrigued me. Last year, I also found myself writing about many artists covering “Nutshell” last year, like Larry Fleet and Billy Strings. So, naturally, I decided to check it out.
Chandler Brown and his band created the mashup flawlessly, blending the two songs together, and it works so well.
Check it out.
If you liked that, you will really like another variation of this mashup.
In September, an artist named Isaiah Sheffield uploaded a video of himself on TikTok strumming to the melody of “Nutshell” as geese flew over him for a perfectly timed outdoor cameo for the video. After establishing the base melody as “Nutshell,” he fires up his harmonica and brings in the famed harmonica riff from “Broken Window Serenade.”
Everything about the snippet he shared is magical, and fans quickly filled up the comments, asking for an entire acoustic cover to be shared.
“About to be a bad night to be a beer when this gets put on Apple Music.”
“This scratches my soul just perfectly.”
“Sad acoustic rock songs are my jam.”
“This will make a grown man cry.”
“I didn’t want it to end.”

Isaiah Sheffield delivered when fans wanted more, releasing a full instrumental version of the mashup. For the full version, Sheffield teamed up with Holden Hastings to provide a more full-body mashup, as Hastings is featured on the electric guitar.
Adding the electric guitar amplified this instrumental cover and the “Nutshell” sound in the melody. The only thing that would improve this cover would be adding vocals from one of the hit songs.
However, even without the vocals, this song is a lullaby for country music lovers. Turn it all the way up; it’s near perfection.
