Treaty Oak Revival’s Frontman, Sam Canty, On Why He Chose Sobriety: “These Guys Count On Me”

Music

Treaty Oak Revival‘s frontman, Sam Canty, is opening up about his sobriety.

Last year, Sam Canty told fans on stage that he embraced a sober lifestyle. While Canty was never super public about being sober because it frankly does not affect his electric stage presence, he shared with fans back in February that he was celebrating more than a whole year of sobriety.

“I guess…I’ve never really announced it on stage before. But people have been asking….as of today, probably, I am one year and fourth months sober off of alcohol. I don’t have one of these every single time, a non-alcoholic beer, but I have it and can have a beer with you fine people.”

Since sharing that last year, Canty has kept the music and live performances the focal point of Treaty Oak Revival’s story. However, at the end of 2024, he appeared on the Country Vs. Metal Podcast and opened up more about his decision to go sober. Sam’s reasoning behind his choice is simple and straightforward: It was best for the band.

Canty’s statement highlights his maturity and how seriously he takes his career.

“These guys count on me to be at every single show and to perform the best that I can. If I’m going up there like a sloppy drunk, forgetting lyrics and making an ass of myself, we’re never going to get anywhere. And, who knows how long that will last.

So, I just, you know…you just got to make a decision. You got to make the right decision that helps everybody else, not just yourself you know. Especially since we’re a band, we aren’t just one person.”

Canty later laughs at how many of Treaty Oak Revival’s fans will often leave comments on their videos of him slinging beer or getting hyped up on stage that he looks drunk, but that’s never been the case.

“Dude, there are people who comment on our videos all the time that they took of me or whatever, and they’ll be like, ‘Man, he looks, he must’ve been drinking heavily this time.’ or ‘Man, he’s all f**ked up.’ Like, dude, I promise you I’m not.”

If there is one thing that Sam Canty is proving, it’s that sober does not equal boring. You can tell he’s passionate about giving his fans an amazing live show, bringing their Southern rock and roll-inspired music to life on stage.

Gotta respect Sam Canty… he is a frontman and a leader.
