The late-night correspondent spoke with MAGA devotees in Washington, D.C. over the weekend
Jordan Klepper spent his inauguration weekend speaking with MAGA diehards. On a new episode of The Daily Show, the late-night correspondent joined Donald Trump‘s fans as they celebrated the president’s second term.
In the clip, Klepper interviews numerous Trump devotees in Washington, D.C., all of whom hung out in freezing cold weather just to be near the festivities. “The golden age of America has arrived,” one man proclaims in the clip while a group of young men dressed in red assert that the entire world is excited for Trump.
Elsewhere, many of the Trump supporters tell Klepper they hope Trump will pardon those involved with the Jan. 6 insurrection. In response, Klepper shows them a series of images of people who were convicted after the riots, including the guy who stole the podium and the man who shot a gun outside the Capitol. “Most definitely, he should not be pardoned,” one interviewee asserts about the gun-toting rioter, while another is certain he should be but can’t explain why. (Spoiler alert: Trump did pardon him.)
Mainly, though, Trump fans are excited for the arrival of the president’s infamous garbage truck. Later, they face disappointment when the inauguration events are moved inside due the weather.
Yesterday, host Jon Stewart recapped the events of the inauguration on The Daily Show, calling it “this most historic vibe shift of a day.” He noted that it was odd for Joe Biden to just peacefully hand over the presidency after what took place on Jan. 6 four years ago.
“So the takeaway of this entire day was a man who tried to overthrow the government has been peacefully handed the reins of power and the outgoing president has started a new tradition of blanket pardoning everyone in his orbit,” Stewart said. “The two men creating a magnificent snake sucking its own dick cycle of no accountability.”
