Garth Brooks Broke Down In The Middle Of His Live Christmas Concert… Because Of Course He Did

Music

This past Sunday, Garth Brooks and his wife Trisha Yearwood treated country fans to a live Christmas special dubbed, Garth & Trisha Live! A Holiday Concert Event.

And it wouldn’t be a Christmas special, (or any public appearance from Garth) without a few tears.

After a number of fans requested “Belleau Wood,” Garth ponied up and performed it, but not before a warning from Trisha:

“Good luck, buddy. This one makes me cry and I never cry.”

Prone to choking up, Garth usually performs a quick, abridged version of this one, but for this performance in particular, he was gonna try and get though the entire thing.

“I don’t know how long it’s been since I played the whole version, but if it’s not too much for you guys, I’d like to play the whole song.”

And then the waterworks came…

Written by Garth himself, along with Joe Henry, “Belleau Woods” appears on his 1997 Sevens album. The emotional tune tells the story of German and American soldiers calling a Christmas truce during World War I.

“Oh the snowflakes fell in silence
Over Belleau Wood that night
For a Christmas truce had been declared
By both sides of the fight
As we lay there in our trenches
The silence broke in two
By a German soldier singing
A song that we all knew.”
