Los Angeles County reported 19,719 new cases of the coronavirus on Thursday, Jan. 7, bringing the total number of cases to 871,404 according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

The county reported 218 new fatalities linked to coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths to 11,545 since tracking began.

Hospitalizations continue to reach new highs. There were 75 more patients hospitalized by the virus as of Thursday. The total number of patients in L.A. County hospitals is 7,898, with 20% in ICUs.

The breakdown of people infected with the coronavirus by age is as follows:

  • 0-4: 15,616
  • 5-11: 37,440
  • 12-17: 46,369
  • 18-29: 195,378
  • 30-49: 273,279
  • 50-64: 153,639
  • 65-79: 59,793
  • Older than 80: 22,195

Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
