Los Angeles County reached a grim milestone of 1 million total cases of people infected with the coronavirus as of Saturday, Jan. 16. The county reported 14,669 new cases bringing the total number of cases to 1,003,923 according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

The county reported 253 new fatalities linked to coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths to 13,741 since tracking began.

Hospitalizations continue to decline. There were 118 fewer patients hospitalized by the virus as of Saturday. The total number of patients in L.A. County hospitals is 7,797 with 22% in ICU.

The breakdown of people infected with the coronavirus by age is as follows:

    • 0-4: 18,279
    • 5-11: 44,359
  • 12-17: 55,315
  • 18-29: 222,562
  • 30-49: 315,126
  • 50-64: 178,702
  • 65-79: 69,871
  • Older than 80: 25,517

Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
