Morgan Wallen’s ‘Dangerous’ Is First Country Album Since Garth Brooks’ ‘The Chase’ To Spend Six Straight Weeks At No. 1

Music

Morgan Wallen has officially become the first artist since Drake to top the Billboard 200 albums chart for six weeks.

Drake’s Views album topped the charts for 13 nonconsecutive weeks in May of 2016 and Taylor Swift’s Folklore led the pack for 8 nonconsecutive weeks last year.

Dangerous logged 93,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the past week, with The Weeknd’s After Hours coming in second at 42,000 equivalent album units.

His six straight weeks at No. 1 ties him with Garth Brooks, making Dangerous the first album to do that since Garth’s The Chase in 1992.

It also become the first country album by a male artist to hit six total weeks at No. 1 since The Chase had seven total weeks. Garth’s 1995 The Hits album stood atop the charts for eight nonconsecutive weeks in 1995, however as a greatest hits album, we’re not really going to count that.

Taylor Swift’s Red album hit seven nonconsecutive weeks atop the list in 2012-13, but Red was really her first foray into the pop world. Although, it was nominated for various country music awards.

Of course all of this comes on the heels of Morgan Wallen’s n-bomb incident that largely left him removed from the face of the country music world. And while he’s been pulled from country radio, any awards eligibility, CMT, suspended from his label and more, it hasn’t appeared to affect his streaming numbers in the slightest.

He recently issued a video statement/apology that called for fans to stop defending his actions, and that he was, at the time, nine days sober.

“I have one favor to ask, I appreciate those who still see something in me and have defended me, but for today please don’t. I was wrong.

It’s on me to take ownership for this and I fully accept any penalties I’m facing.”

Saturday Night Live also took a second shot at him, bringing attention his chart success despite the racial slur on their “Weekend Update” segment.
