Coronavirus tracker: California reported 2,956 new cases and 86 new deaths as of May 4

California

In California,  2,956 new cases of the coronavirus were reported, bringing the total number of cases so far to 3,723,330, according to Tuesday’s end-of-day totals on public health websites.

The 14-day average of new cases is at 1,829.

There were 86 new deaths reported statewide Tuesday, for a total of 61,675 people who have died from COVID-19.

The state reported 37 fewer hospitalizations from the previous day, lowering the total hospitalizations of those infected with the coronavirus to 1,893.

According to the California Department of Public Health, 30.4 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state and 32.3% of residents are now fully vaccinated.
