Review: Jon Butcher “Special Day”

Music

Grammy nominated guitarist, singer/songwriter Jon Butcher has just released his new single “Special Day” the title song of his full length album to be unveiled later this year. Lighting up the planet like fireworks dancing into the night sky and shattering the darkness, “Special Day” is a reggae infused, funkadelic, anthemic track with a powerful message.

The accompanying video is a movie festival worthy short film with a revolving door where the whole of America passes through. The lyrics are aligned like a rope to cling to like a portal to a miracle with moral implications in a surprisingly fun way. The track is a free spirited, singable, and addictive orchestration with phenomenal guitar work and the flawlessly, powerful, and unique, signature vocals Butcher is recognized for.

Jon Butcher emerged from the iconic 80’s Boston music scene. As one of the influential musicians of that time Butcher has performed on the same stage with legends including The J Geils Band, BB King, Leland Sklar, and many others. Expanding his already opulent career, Jon’s up and coming album contains 10 tracks of what he calls “future blues.” Butcher describes this album as “The best album I’ve ever done. Intense where it needs to be, trippy in all the good ways and ferocious performances by some of the best musicians in the world. The songs on the record reflect my head space in ways I didn’t expect. As an artist you eventually write about who you are, whether you intend to or not. Special Day has been an experience to make. And one I want to share.”

Like a raging tsunami Jon Butcher crushes this album with the weight of his devotion. Giving voice to words unsaid Butcher is a storyteller. He has orgasmically captured the essence of joy in a kaleidoscope of vibrancy….with “Special Day.”
