Love me some Jimi Hendrix.
The stupid talented Billy Strings was in Redmond, Washington, over the weekend, performing at Marymoor Park right outside of Seattle.
And with Saturday being the 51st anniversary of the death of guitar legend Jimi Hendrix, as well as Hendrix being from Seattle, it was only right that Billy pay tribute to the rock and roll icon with a cover or two.
Hendrix, only a few years into his short but legendary career, passed away on September 18th, 1970, in London, England, after a barbiturates overdose caused him to asphyxiate on his own vomit. He was just 27 years old.
Between 1969 and 1971, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix all passed away at the age of 27. When Kurt Cobain passed away at the age of 27 in 1994, conversation around the “27 Club” ignited. Amy Winehouse and blues legend Robert Johnson also passed away at 27.
Anyways, back to Billy.
Billy kicked off the show with a cover of “Love Or Confusion” from the 1967 debut album, Are You Experienced?
He then closed out the show with two more Hendrix covers, “Hey Joe” and “Third Stone From The Sun,” also from Jimi’s Are You Experienced? album, for his encore.
