Brothers Osborne’s John Osborne is opening up on his battle with depression.
The duo recently stopped by SiriusXM’s Exit 209 with Storme Warren Podcast, where John shared a lot about his personal journey and struggle with depression.
He admitted that it got so severe that he was suicidal and felt like there was no way out:
“In full honesty with being unfiltered, I found that I hid it when I wanted to literally kill myself. I was suicidal. Legit suicidal.
I mean, I feel like we all dip in and out of depression, maybe a suicidal ideation every once in a while and obviously, ‘Oh, that’s crazy,’ in our darkest moments.
This was like, ‘Nope, this is what I’m going to do.”’
Thankfully, he was able to realize that he needed professional help to start to heal from the inside:
“It was the most real feeling I’d ever had and fortunately for me, I have to give myself some credit. That soul inside of me was like, ‘Dude, you gotta get help.’
And I did get help.”
He added that he continues to seek help in this aspect of his life, and he’s not afraid to say what’s on his mind and heart now which has helped him tremendously:
“I’m still seeking help and I’m still open minded. I’ve learned how to say no a lot more and I’m more aware of my mind and my heart and my soul.
I’m a lot happier because you know, you have to take care of yourself. People use this analogy, but it’s true.
When the air masks or the oxygen masks come down from the plane if something’s going wrong, they say put it on yourself before you put it on the person next to you and I realized if I’m not helping me, I can’t help anybody and I am a lot happier.”
But most importantly, just being able to talk about how he feels and be honest with himself and others has made all the difference:
“And I think that is one of the things too, not to detract from this story and what we’re discussing, but I think it’s a very important thing for anyone going through it.
And I’m sure, Storme, that you can attest to this is that one of the most important things you can do is talk about it. That’s probably the single most important thing.”
It’s cool to see someone with a platform like John opening up so frankly about his struggles, and being willing to share his story with the world.
And hopefully, him doing so will help someone else who may be going through a similar situation.
