Review: MANY MILES AWAY – “Can You Feel It” by Edmund Barker

Music

The bold new band Many Miles Away has a sound that encompasses many different genres, from metal to electronic to a bit of a jazzy swing. One only has to listen to their new song “Can You Feel It” to realize that the duo, a collab between guitarist Miles Schon and singer Michael Shapiro, has some incredible cards up its sleeve. Starting things out with a thumping club beat, the tune picks up in intensity with moody, wistful vocals until fiery Santana-esque guitars hit you on the chorus. The full force of the production is impeccable, immersing you in a groovy wall of sound.

The track comes to life thanks to a lurching, shuffling beat not unlike the Billy Squier classic “The Stroke,” practically begging you to step out onto the dance floor. Producer Tom Fletcher’s production work on the song is a thing of beauty, linking all these disparate elements together into a musical tsunami that never feels like it’s cluttered or trying too hard. Many Miles Away, still something of a young-ish act dating back to 2021, clearly has a bright future ahead of them if this single is any indication. The creative fusion of Schon and Shapiro gives their work a wonderfully eclectic feel. Here’s to a great musical journey ahead for them.
