Gary Clark Jr. to Perform A Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute At CMT Music Awards

The 2023 CMT Music Awards take place tomorrow night, and the stage will be graced with many talented country music performances.

The show features performances from Alanis Morissette, The Black Crowes with Darius Rucker, Carrie Underwood, and many others.

But one that actually seems to be a late add on to the list of music performances is Gary Clark Jr., who will be delivering a tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan, the late great Texas blues singer.

The four time Grammy winner is a Texas native himself, and his blues sound and guitar playing has often been compared to the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan.

It had been previously announced that there would be a tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd, so this late addition of Clark Jr. also playing tribute will most likely take place in a similar part of the award show.

The CMT Awards, which will be hosted by Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini, will take place in Austin, TX, which is Clark Jr’s hometown. He won’t have to travel too far in order to honor Stevie Ray Vaughan, who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in August of 1990.

In a career that was cut far too short, Vaughn released six studio albums and was widely recognized for his intricate guitar playing. The distinct blues and rock sound that Vaughn captured and meshed together has long been an inspiration for other artists, such as Gary Clark Jr. and John Mayer.

Clark Jr. is the perfect artist to play tribute to Vaughn and is a very accomplished musician and artist in his own regard. The 39 year old has been releasing music since the late 1990’s and his most recent albums have been met with much praise from critics and fans.

Clark Jr. has had three albums in the Billboard Top 200, with his 2012 album Blak and Blu, 2015’s The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, and his most recent album in 2019 This Land.
