Vice President Kamala Harris returns to LA for weekend visit and Juneteenth appearance

California

Vice President Kamala Harris returned to Los Angeles Friday night, June 16.

Air Force Two arrived at the Los Angeles International Airport at 6:33 p.m.

She disembarked and waved at a friendly, cheering crowd.

About 400 people were on the tarmac, including friends, family and community organizations.

Douglas Emhoff, her husband, made his way along the barricade line greeting the crowd and taking selfies. Harris followed, slowly making her way down the line.

She did not stop to speak to a small group of media.

But shortly after 7 p.m., Harris and the second gentleman got into their car and headed home.

Harris, who lives in Brentwood when not living in Washington D.C.,, was set to appear  Monday at CNN’s “Juneteenth: A Global Celebration for Freedom” at the Greek Theatre in Griffith Park.

The event will feature performances including Charlie Wilson, Nelly, Miguel and Mike Phillips, according to the network.

Harris was in the Southland just last month, spending four days in the area from May 19-22. She made several public appearances during that visit, including a tour of the Baldwin Hills nonprofit Baby2Baby and a visit to Crypto.com area for a Los Angeles Sparks game, during which she greeted Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner following her extensive detention in Russia on a drug charge.

After greeting a crowd estimated in the hundreds on the airport tarmac, Harris, accompanied by her husband, Douglas Emhoff, was taken by motorcade from the airport to the West Los Angeles area.

The arrival and subsequent trip away from the airport was expected to create evening rush-hour troubles for motorists in the Westchester and West Los Angeles areas. The caravan was planned alongside rolling road closures both on and off the San Diego (405) Freeway.
