Encore Version

The collaborative version of the record will appear on Horan’s upcoming deluxe album The Show: The Encore

There isn’t anything Niall Horan wouldn’t do for love, and he’s found a kindred spirit in Lizzy McAlpine on their first-ever collaboration “You Could Start a Cult (Encore Version).” The original solo edition of the record appeared on Horan’s third studio album The Show, released earlier this year. Next week, he will share The Show: The Encore, which will feature the updated version with double the devotion.

In place of Horan’s brief second verse, McAlpine delivers lyrics where she makes a promise to go the distance. “Lately, what I know of reality/I let go of it happily/When I look in your eyes,” she sings over the record’s smooth, acoustic production. “Swear it’s true/No mountain that I wouldn’t move/Sea I wouldn’t part in two.” The final line of the verse lingers from the original version with the rising singer-songwriter repeating Horan’s original lyric: “To wake up by your side is all I wanna do.”

“I’ve been a huge fan of hers for a while now and am so grateful she was able to hop on the song and write a special new verse,” Horan shared about the single when the extended edition of the album was announced this week. Earlier this year, the former One Direction member performed McAlpine’s breakout hit “Ceilings” during his BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge set.

The Show: The Encore is set for release on Nov. 3 featuring an additional collaboration with John Legend on the title track “The Show.” The album will also include live renditions of multiple songs from the album — and a few covers — performed in different settings, including Horan’s Electric Picnic festival performance, his VEVO Extended Play sessions, and his album release performance with Spotify Studios.
