Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna Plots 2024 ‘Rebel Girl’ Book Tour

Film

Punk great Kathleen Hanna will hit the road next spring for a special book tour supporting her upcoming memoir, Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk, out May 14 via Ecco.

The book tour will begin May 14 in Brooklyn and include stops in Washington D.C., Cincinnati, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Boston, and Philadelphia. The May 22 event in Seattle will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend.

Tickets for all reading events go on sale today, Dec. 12, via Hanna’s website. A portion of proceeds will go to the nonprofit Peace Sisters

Rebel Girl will find Hanna digging into the tumult that engulfed her childhood and the punk epiphanies she experienced at Olympia, Washington’s Evergreen College, where she launched a fanzine called Bikini Kill — and later a band with Toby Vail and Kathi Wilcox under the same name. Hanna will also write about her formative years at the heart of the riot grrrl movement, her friendships with various musicians (Kurt Cobain, Ian MacKaye, Joan Jett), her relationship with husband Adam Horovitz (a.k.a. the Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock), her battle with Lyme disease, and her other musical endeavors, the Julie Ruin and Le Tigre

Earlier this year, Le Tigre reunited for their first tour in 18 years. The band — comprising Hanna, Johanna Fateman, and JD Samson — had formed in the late Nineties following the breakup of Bikini Kill, and released three LPs between 1999 and 2004 before splitting in 2005. A few years prior, in 2019, Bikini Kill also reunited for a short tour, and they’ve played a handful of additional shows over the past two years.
