Billy Strings Lays Down Rocking Cover Of Nirvana’s “About A Girl” During Ryman Auditorium Show

Music

The third and final show of Billy Strings’ weekend run in Nashville.

After two electric nights at Bridgestone Arena, Strings hit The Ryman for a final, more intimate show. During his final show, he changed the pace, bringing in a full band for a portion of the show to cover some classic rock songs. Strings stepped away from his bluegrass upbringing early in his career to test the heavy metal waters, and he often pays homage to that time in his career.

And, let’s face it, with as many Deadheads that are often in the crowd, they live for these moments, too. If there is one thing Billy Strings does better than anyone else in the game, it’s a blending of genres to redefine the bluegrass sound, which in turn brings fans from all walks of life to his shows.

Billy Strings and his crew pulled out the 1989 Nirvana hit “About The Girl,” throwing down a sensational cover.

The single, written by lead singer Kurt Cobain’s then-girlfriend, is noted as one of his most potent singles, combining a hypnotizing composition with powerful lyrics, making the track a force to be reckoned with. With such critical acclaim, it also quickly became a fan favorite.

During the cover from his show, you can hear the audience belting out the lyrics behind Strings. During covers like this, fans really can listen to how dynamic Strings’ voice is. From the bluegrass twangs to an angry belt, he can do it all and nails it each time.

Having a full band backing Strings is always a treat, and you know you will get some killer songs during this section of his set.

Check it out.

Since Strings did three completely different setlists each night in Nashville, he took advantage of having a full band behind him, laying down some other stellar rock covers. Check them out while you are here.
