With The Most Awkward Timing Possible, Morgan Wallen & Eric Church’s “Man Made A Bar” Hits #1 On The Charts

Music

Well that’s awkward…

Of course by now everybody’s heard about Morgan Wallen’s latest run-in with the law in downtown Nashville after being arrested for allegedly throwing a chair off the rooftop of his friend Eric Church’s new bar, Chief’s.

According to News Channel 5, officers arrested Morgan, who was pointed out by the staff as the culprit, after the chair stuck the ground just a few feet from where they were standing. Nashville Metro Police reviewed security footage and it confirmed that he threw an object off the roof.

Wallen was arrested on three counts of assault with a deadly weapon/reckless endangerment, two counts for the two officers who were in the vicinity and one for the danger to the public. Wallen was also charged with disorderly conduct with a bond was set at $15,250.

Wallen’s attorney released the following statement:

“At 10:53p Sunday evening Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities.”

And the Metro Nashville Police Department released a statement on the arrest, along with Morgan’s newest mugshot:

“Country artist Morgan Wallen, 30, was booked early today on 3 cts of felony reckless endangerment and 1 ct of misdemeanor disorderly conduct for throwing a chair from the rooftop of Chief’s Bar Sun night. The chair landed on Broadway, close to 2 MNPD officers. His bond: $15,250.”

And in what can only be described as proof that God has a sense of humor, today Morgan and Eric just scored a #1 hit with their duet…”Man Made A Bar.”

A little too on the nose, right?

The song was released in 2023 on Morgan’s One Thing At A Time album, and was written by Rocky Block, Jordan Dozzi, Larry Fleet, and Brett Tyler. Church joined Wallen for a performance of the duet at the 2023 CMA Awards.

And today, it hit #1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, becoming the 14th #1 single for Wallen and the 12th for Church.

The bar that Church made poked fun at Morgan’s latest controversy with their marquee sign earlier this week:

“Our Pigs Fly, Our Chairs Don’t”

Of course Eric Church isn’t the man who made a bar in the song, and there’s nothing about another man throwing a chair off the rooftop of that bar, but still…how ironic is it that this is the week that it hits #1?
