Now that’s a little harsh… but it is funny.
Riley Green and Jamey Johnson have gotten to be good friends as Riley has ascended to becoming one of mainstream country music’s biggest stars, and they go way back, and you probably know that Riley has been covering Johnson’s hit “In Color” for years now at his concerts, and he often names Johnson as one of his biggest musical inspirations.
And of course, Jamey has long been known for his signature long, white hair and beard, and even though he’s already lost the color in his hair, Jamey is probably younger than you think when you see someone who’s already gray like him. Jamey’s 50-years-old, and during an appearance on the Like a Farmer podcast, he says that he’s “aged like a dairy product,” and explained that Riley doesn’t let him forget it.
He says Riley always says there’s “three generations” in a picture when they take one together, joking about his white hair, and while Riley’s only a little over ten years younger than Jamey, he doesn’t miss a chance to make fun his friend, and Jamey seemed to think it was pretty funny himself:
“I’ve aged like a dairy product… every time Riley and I end up in a picture together, he always says, ‘three generations,’ even if it’s just me and him. Somehow I represent two generations.”
He went onto tell a funny story about Riley catching him using his foam rollers one morning, an exercise Johnson has picked up to help stretch everything out, which includes him laying on a ball or foam roller and rolling around to get the spots that are bothering him.
Well, one time during a trip back to Alabama for a golf tournament they were both participating in, Jamey had parked his tour bus outside of Riley’s house while he was in town, and Riley saw him out there early one morning doing “yoga”:
“Brock Lesnar got me into this form of stretching, it’s nothing more than a foam roller, it’s taking a ball, and just mashing it into your shoulder by putting all your body weight on it and rolling it over. You find the things that hurt and you just really focus on them.
We were doing a golf tournament down in Alabama, I parked my bus outside of his house, first thing in the morning I get out on that mat and start rolling over these foam rollers and these balls and everything.
Riley comes out there and looked at me, he’s standing there drinking his coffee and he’s looking at me, he said, ‘Damn, I didn’t know you were gong to come out here and be doing yoga in my front yard.’”
It sounds like neither one of them lets the other get away with much…
Of course, I’m sure it’s all in good fun, and I have to imagine Jamey gives it back to Riley just as much, and the gray hair is Jamey’s signature now so it’s really become a staple of his image. And if most of us are lucky enough to live so long, we’ll all get gray hair one day too.
