A pilot was injured Monday when a small plane brought down power lines and crashed upside-down in the parking lot of a San Fernando Valley auto parts store.
Details about the pilot’s condition were not immediately available, but he appeared to be speaking with firefighter-paramedics. The 2007 Cessna 172S Skyhawk is registered to a local flight school.
Reports from the LAFD indicated high voltage power lines were also damaged in the crash near Ralston Avenue and Van Nuys Boulevard in an O’Reilly Auto Parts parking lot. Power outages were reported in the surrounding area, which was evacuated due to the downed wires.
The plane did not appear to strike any vehicles in the lot, which was blocked off by police.
Details about what caused the plane to go down were not immediately available.
The location is just north of Whiteman Airport, a general aviation airport in the northeastern San Fernando Valley.
