Glendale residents urged to claim unclaimed money – NBC Los Angeles

California

The city of Glendale urged residents to look for unclaimed checks and deposits that have remained unclaimed for more than three years and may be owed to them before the funds are transferred to city accounts.

City officials said a list of unclaimed funds will be published in a local newspaper for two consecutive weeks, as required by state law, identifying individuals and entities that may be eligible to recover the money.

If the funds are not claimed within 45 to 60 days of the first notice, they will become city property, according to the city’s Finance Department.

“Some smaller amounts, such as unclaimed funds under $15 that have been outstanding for over a year, may automatically be transferred to the City’s General Fund without public notice,” city officials said in a statement.

Residents can search for unclaimed funds through the city’s website or its online unclaimed property portal, and may submit claims either online or by filing a form with the Finance Department.

The city’s website is here.

The unclaimed property portal is here.

Claims must be submitted by June 30, officials said.
