Naked and Afraid: Global Showdown

SUNDAY: The survivalist series that lets it all hang out takes on an international Survivor feel in a spinoff competition, pitting 14 contestants in seven teams representing four countries. Four teams are from the U.S., one representing Texas and the others covering the East, South, and West. In the unforgiving terrain of South Africa’s Zululand, they’ll take on teams from Australia, Brazil, and Mexico, all vying for a $200,000 grand prize and national bragging rights. (Somehow, we expect this version of a World Cup will look a little different.) In another twist, the teams earn points in a new scoring system by tackling survival tasks and competing in challenges, with the winners safe from elimination and reaping rewards including food, water, and shelter. The bottom two teams go head-to-head in an elimination challenge, at which point they can return to civilization.

Airing at the conclusion of the first day of qualifying, the special goes inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum to spotlight artifacts representing some of the defining moments and legends over the race’s more than century-long history. (The 110th running is scheduled for May 24.) Among the racers participating: Helio Castroneves, Janet Guthrie, Arie Luyendyk, reigning champ Álex Palou, Danica Patrick, Scott Dixon, and Lyn St. James. Apparently, it’s never too early to start your engines.
