As the Iran war enters its fourth month, the Republican-led House voted on Wednesday to end the war with Iran, with four Republicans backing Democrats in the push against President Donald Trump.

The 215-208 bipartisan vote to adopt the war powers resolution is largely a symbolic congressional action, likely to be vetoed by Trump if passed in Congress. However, the strike points to resistance within the GOP and could pressure the president to change course in the military campaign he has repeatedly claimed will be over soon.

“Following repeated attempts to get sycophants in the Republican-controlled House to join us, House Democrats successfully passed our War Powers Resolution today to stand up for the American people and hold Donald Trump accountable. It is now time for Senate Republicans to do the right thing,” said a statement from Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and his top two deputies, Katherine Clark of Massachusetts and California’s Pete Aguilar.

The deeply unpopular war with Iran has caused the price of gas to soar and inflation to skyrocket to a three-year high. In May, a senior Pentagon official said that the U.S. has spent $29 ‌billion so far on the ongoing conflict, while its objectives remain confusing and nebulous after months of chaos.

Multiple polls have shown that Americans want an end to the war. Last month, a CNN poll revealed that 70 percent of Americans agree that Trump is doing a bad job on the economy. Meanwhile, 65 percent of Americans said Trump’s policies “have worsened economic conditions.”

“I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation,” the president added.
