Alyson Hannigan just broke her silence on the death of her Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star, Anthony Head.
On Saturday, June 6, the actress who played Willow Rosenberg took to Instagram with an emotional tribute to the late actor who portrayed Rupert Giles in the series. Head died at 72 from “complications due to pneumonia” while “surrounded by his family,” his daughters said in a statement to BBC News on June 5.
“This cut is so deep I fear it can never heal. 💔,” Hannigan began her update, which featured an old photo of herself and Head. Oh Tonal…I am so grateful to have had you in my life! I want to say a million wonderful things about you and yet I can’t seem to find the words that would do you justice.”
To conclude her post, the American Pie star shared, “I love you so much and will miss you forever. RIP.”
In the comments, Instagram users flooded Hannigan with condolences. Fellow Buffy co-star, Sarah Michelle Gellar, wrote, “He loved you so dearly, Aly.”
“I’m so sorry, this one hurts and so close after Nicholas,” another follower shared, referencing Buffy star Nicholas Brendon‘s death in March.
Another pointed out, “The past year and a half in the Buffyverse…. I’m not sure I can take anymore, this one hurt,” of Michelle Trachtenberg‘s death in February 2025.
Someone else commented, “We all grew up with him and loved him! You are missed, Anthony! I’m so sorry, Alyson! My thoughts are with all you guys!”
Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user declared, “Willow and Giles forever.”
Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003, followed by a spinoff series, Angel, which ran for five seasons from 1999 to 2004.
