Katie Couric was full of smiles as she shared a photo with her new baby granddaughter, Virginia, on Wednesday (June 17).

The veteran journalist took to her Instagram page to post the snap, which showed her in a New York Knicks jersey while cradling her sleeping granddaughter. “Introducing Virginia Louise!” Couric captioned the pic. “Born May 30, 2026. 8lbs 5ounces.”

The former Today co-host said she is a “very happy Gogo,” her nickname for grandma. She also said that Virginia’s mom, her daughter, Ellie (35), was “doing great” and that her first grandchild, Jay (2), is “coping.”

Couric first revealed she was about to be a grandma again back in May, telling People, “My daughter, Ellie, is expecting her second child on June 5th. So it’s gonna be a very exciting summer, both for Ellie and her husband, Mark.”

She did express one concern, however, adding, “I’m not sure how exciting it’s gonna be for Jay to welcome a new baby into the house. TBD on that. But that’s really, really exciting.”

The former 60 Minutes correspondent also told the outlet that at 69 years old, she’s at that point in her life where she tries to “really cherish and relish and appreciate happy occasions, like weddings and births and graduations.”

“My husband missed so many milestones with our daughters,” she added, referring to her late husband, Jay Monahan, who died at 42 in 1998 after a battle with colon cancer. Their daughters, Ellie and Carrie, were just 6 and 2 at the time of their father’s passing.

“They were just 6 and 2 when Jay died, so he missed so much. He missed watching them grow into these incredible young women,” an emotional Couric shared. “He missed proms and parent-teacher conferences and college acceptances and graduations and weddings, and the birth of a grandson, Jay, who is 2, named after his late grandfather.”

Nowadays, Couric said she is “grateful” for what she has and that everyone in her life is doing well. “When you experience loss, like my husband and my sister, and I’ve had many friends who I’ve lost, it does give you a greater appreciation for every single moment, and every happy occasion,” she stated.
