An hours-long power outage was impacting the Hollywood Hills and Brentwood as a heat wave reached peak temperatures on Saturday.
Some neighbors say their power went out around 6 p.m. Friday and lasted for more than 17 hours, leaving families to deal with the dangerous heat without air conditioning.
By 11:30 a.m. Saturday, data from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power showed the power was still out for 40 homes.
The department said the outages in those areas were linked to an underground circuit that had to be repaired and that crews were working around the clock to fix it.
According to the LADWP’s “Power Outage Map,” the power was fixed in those communities by 3:30 p.m. But people whose power was knocked out overnight say they’re frustrated.
“It’s kind of sad and can’t believe it’s still happening,” Hollywood Hills resident George Ganim told NBCLA. “They’ve got to fix that, really. It’s been happening a lot.”
Heat advisories and extreme heat warnings will remain in place across Southern California through Sunday.
NBC Los Angeles reached out to the LADWP for a response to neighbors’ concerns and to ask how many customers were impacted at the peak of the outage but has not yet heard back.
