Los Angeles’ long spell of hot weather will continue into the weekend with high temperatures reaching triple digits for inland Southern California.
Expect the weekend heat to peak on Saturday with near- to above-normal temperatures inland. High temperatures will range from 95 to well above 100 degrees.
Expect 90 to 100 degrees across the coastal valleys.
“As we head through the weekend, temperatures are going to get even hotter,” said NBCLA meteorologist Belen De Leon. “We’re also going to have that monsoon moisture bringing us a chance of storms, mainly in the mountains.”
An extreme heat warning will be in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday in the Antelope Valley and Antelope Valley foothills, where temperatures could reach 110 degrees.
A similar warning will be in place from 10 a.m. Saturday through 8 p.m. Sunday for the Santa Clarita, San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys, along with the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, Calabasas, Agoura Hills and the inland coast including downtown. Those areas could see temperatures of 90 to 100 degrees.
A less severe heat advisory will be in place until 8 p.m. Sunday for the San Gabriel Mountains, but temperatures could still reach 105 degrees.
Early afternoon storms are possible in some locations.
High temperatures will gradually decrease next week, reaching the low 90s in the San Fernando Valley Monday before mid-80s by Thursday. By late next week, temperatures will run below normal after a stretch of above-normal highs.
“Next week, we finally get some relief — a cooling trend on the way with a deeper marine layer setting up,” De Leon said.
