Looters target Bellflower liquor store after street takeover – NBC Los Angeles

California

The owners of a liquor store in Bellflower say they’re facing thousands of dollars in damages after their store was looted during a street takeover Saturday morning.

The incident happened at Bellflower and Somerset boulevards at around 3:30 a.m. It’s the second weekend in a row that a shop in Los Angeles County has been looted after a takeover of an intersection.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said 100 to 150 cars blocked the intersection so cars could do donuts in the street. During the takeover, the owners of A-Z Market say dozens of people smashed through their windows, trashing the counter and aisles and looting their business.

“It’s crazy,” store owner Steven Abdullatif said. “I’ve never seen something like that before. I usually see it on the media, but I never expected it to happen to me.”

They say they’re out thousands of dollars between the damage and the stolen product, and they want investigators to take action to stop this from happening to anyone else.

“I’m obviously very sad,” store owner Nathan Abdullatif said. “We worked so hard to establish this business over 11 years, and for it to be done just 10 minutes after people coming in here, taking everything that we have, it’s just very sad, and it’s hard to get over.”

Last weekend, two AutoZone stores in South and East Los Angeles were looted after similar takeovers. The East LA shop on Atlantic Boulevard got hit twice in two days. In social media posts, the LASD shared images of 27 people it says were part of the looting in East LA.

Officials said no arrests have been made in these cases. Keenan Willard reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026.

NBC Los Angeles has reached out to the sheriff’s department to ask for an interview about how they’re handing this apparent trend of street takeovers turning into looting of businesses.
