A possibly armed dirt bike rider was taken into custody after leading Los Angeles police on a pursuit through South Los Angeles on Wednesday evening.
The pursuit began near Dodger Stadium at about 5:45 p.m. and continued on surface streets all the way to South LA.
At around 6:20 p.m., aerial footage from NewsChopper4 showed the rider stop to refuel at a gas station before taking off with the hose. Nearly 10 minutes later, the rider got too close to a car and appeared to break one of its side mirrors.
He was seen on the wrong side of the road at times as about six LAPD vehicles followed him. A police helicopter was also overhead.
Around 6:45 p.m., the rider was seen jumping a fence in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood and hiding in a blue recycling bin. When officers pulled up a few minutes later, he got out of the trash can and put his hands up to be taken into custody.
This is a developing story that will be updated as more information arrives.
